Coming hot on the heels of Lagom and Hygge – the latest Scandinavian lifestyle trend to hit Europe combines physical activity with cleaning up urban spaces.
‘Plogging’ is a new pastime popular in Sweden where people go for a jog and at the same time pick up litter – bringing a new environmental element to the sport. You pick and jog, hence the term ‘plog’.
The first mention of plogging on Instagram goes back to October 2016 but in the last few months it has really caught on, with whole teams regularly meeting up to plog together. All you need is running gear, a bag for litter and ideally a pair of gloves.
The activity is now spilling into other countries – for example there’s a dedicated plogging community in Paris.
